Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park

Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park of Hyderabad has so far attracted 14 companies. Ranbaxy Laboratories is also considering investment of about Rs. 120 crore for its proposed R & D center in phase II of the Park and has already signed an MoU with the state government. The first phase of the SP Biotech Park has almost been completed. The investments in the first phase would be in the range of over Rs 400 crore, and the second phase is expected to attract investments to the tune of Rs.1000 crore.

The units that are coming up in the first phase include KCP Biotech, Genotex International, Maanya Biotech, Micro Biomed Products, Aktiva biotech, Vega Medicare, Sai Mahalakshmi Biotech, Jasmine Biologicals, SPC Biotech, Southern Biofuels and Zenotech Labs. Hyderabad-based Biological E is setting up a biotech R & D cum manufacturing facility at the Biotech Park with an investment of Rs. 100 crore, and the company has already taken 50 acres of land in the second phase. The project is focused on combination vaccines, and is scheduled for commissioning by 2004. Vishesh Biotech has recently announced plans to set up a bioinformatics centre in the park and is taking one acre for this purpose. The company has a three-year agreement with Noida-based Bioinformatics Institute of India, and the partners would offer corporate training in bioinformatics.

ICICI Knowledge Park

ICICI Knowledge Park, located at Turkapally in Ranga Reddy district, near Hyderabad offers world-class infrastructure and support facilities for business-driven research. The Park encourages research and development in all knowledge intensive fields with focus on pharmaceuticals technology, biotechnology, specialty chemicals, IT and telecommunications. The Park is set up as not-for-profit company by ICICI Bank and supported by the technology-friendly State Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The park is recognized by Government of India, as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) and is entitled to full customs and excise duty waivers.

Developed on an aesthetically landscaped 200-acre campus, the park allows tenants to build customised R & D centres in the modular units or land plots. The modular units are fully air-conditioned ready-to-use laboratories of about 1600 sft. to 5000 sft. each with standard facilities and services for establishing state-of-the-art research centres for conducting advanced scientific research with in-built flexibility to accommodate modifications with minimal disturbance. The park also offers land plots on long- term lease for companies to set up their laboratories, greenhouses and pilot plants. The units are competitively priced and lease agreements can be structured to suit individual client needs. An information block, utility block, administrative building and the first innovation corridor (phase I and II) consisting of 58,000 sft. of built-up wet laboratory space are currently operational.
